No Parking Except For The Mayor Of Dearborn Heights.

Mayor Parks in no parking zone

At the City Wide garage sale this past weekend the Mayor of Dearborn Heights decided he didn’t have to pay attention to the sign that clearly showed NO Parking.

Mayor Parks in no parking zone

I can’t see a sign anywhere in this photo that say’s ‘park here Mayor’ this is the first time I’ve seen the car that us taxpayers pay for that’s a nice looking car. Just wondering what would have happened to anyone who may have parked behind the Mayors car? Mr. Mayor these signs are put up for a reason I can’t find anywhere in the charter that say’s the Mayor doesn’t have to follow the law. Did I miss something? I know some on here are going to say what’s the big deal and to those who are asking or thinking this I might say maybe that way of thinking is part of the problem. I would like you to start parking where ever you want and when you get a ticket ask them why? Tell the police who will be giving you a ticket “the Mayor did it” see how far that gets you.

Your comment is very will represent the frustration of the few who comes in contact with elected officials at all levels, When elected officials at all levels anywhere in the word starts enjoying the power of the public trust that been given to them by the people and start disrespecting the regulations that they signed in to be the law of the land, then its time for them to take break from public life and go back to their private live and enjoy the freedom from public power and live among others normal members of their society under the laws they helped establishing to further justice, peace, and overall better social and civic society.
Democracy = All members of a democratic society are “under the law” established by the majority as long as those laws are just, humane and respect the right of others to live in peace and free to pursue happiness without stepping on others who should have the same right.
Practicing Democracy should lead to peace.
Public serving should be similar to Jury Duty, not a career. Term limits at all levels will help eliminate most political power grabbing and remind the positions that they are returning to normal life careers without the political power to live under what they helped establishing during their political limited terms.

  2. Agian Tired you are missing the point. Anyone else would have been written a citation for $70. As I review this, the Mayor is silly for thinking he is immune to the laws that the rest of us are expected to follow. Back to the leadership issue. Is it silly to expect leaders to lead by example? Interesting that you can see the silliness but you can’t see the flaw in this type of behavior. Blind alligence, from time to time, has been known to cause logic issues.

  3. Tired, all public concerns are legitimate, and if calling a city mayor who violate his own city parking ordinance ” silliness” then why we have a ” No parking” ordinance on the city books? are you in favor of having people “above the law”

  4. No parking means no parking. However, if that was anybody else’s vehicle, we wouldn’t have heard a word about it whether they were busted or not. As I said, there are plenty of legitimate concerns to worry about before you have to resort to this silliness.

  5. Tired: Since you have a good commend of the English language, and I’m assuming you can read and understand what “NO PARKING” mean. Do you agree with the driver of the above car to park under that sign?

  6. I saw that car parked there. It was blocking part of the driveway that the firetrucks use to get into the firestation. The firetruck came back and had a hard time getting around that car. What a poor example of following the law. This mayor is always saying how neighbors should call the ordinance officers when they see someone doing work without a permit, but yet he himself cannot follow a no parking sign. Leaders lead by example. You would think he would be setting an example about parking where it is legal, not where it is convenient for him. Especially when people with disabilities had to park farther away.

  7. Tired,

Ah! Another minion of the administration posts on the Truth Page (and their claim is that they never read the Truth Page). Its good to know that some people who work in the city administration have good grammar skills. Now that you are so well versed in commas and periods, how about working on accountability and transparency.

Don’t over look the arrogance and sense of entitlement that a behavior like this demonstrates. Maybe if and when enough people are tired like you, we will address the root cause of the issue. Leadership always has a sense of humility with it. I never see a sense of humility from this local government. Never, regarless of how petty or how large the issue is.

  9. Boy, the junior detectives are working overtime with this one. Is this really where your plan of attack has sunk? You can’t make anybody care about your legitimate concerns so it’s down to this? Man oh man…I guess I should be grateful that the post darn near made sense with periods and everything.

Is the mayor of Dearborn Heights a certified police officer? Can he drive a police car without been trained as an officer? Is he allowed to make moving or parking traffic violations stops or responding to 911 calls?
If not, then why he needs a car with “police interceptor specifications” ? Those car are not for “fun Drive” or transportation from point A to point B. They are cars specifically designed to accommodate the special needs of public safety officers.

Nobody above the laws, parking violations tickets are issued to owner of the car on record, therefore in this situation and if proved to be the mayor car, will be “Dearborn Heights”, unless the city obligate their employee to pa the parking violations.
Remember its up to the officer on duty to evaluate the situation, and its his discretion to wither issuing a ticket or not.
But why anybody park a car in front of “No parking sig”? when you can park lawfully? unless its an emergency.

  12. May be its parked there for an emergency or may be for other lawful reason. Please understand that this car looks like is an “official enforcement car without sirens” and therefore police officers enforcing the parking ordinances in that area assume its parked there for legitimate reason. By the way, how do you know it’s the mayor car? Are you sure it’s not belonging to one of the officers responsible to keep the peace in that are? And why a city mayor drive a car that look like an “official enforcement car with projectors lights on the sides”, Is the city council approved such car as an official city car for the mayor? Or may he get this car from the city used inventory to save taxpayers money?
I don’t see other city officials cars parked in violation of parking ordinances. So it’s not a wide-spread practice of city officials driving official city cars not respecting the laws that they are responsible to enforce. Thanks God, it’s an isolated incident “got on camera” and made its way to social media.
In this age of social media and instant video/audio capability of smart phones in the hands of 3 years old kids, we should make sure we act as we like to be seen or perceived to be. Especially public officials since they choose to trade personal privacy for public life.
The fathers of the US constitution addressed this particular issue and affirmed that in the US there will be no body allowed to be above the laws of the land.
The wisdom behind that is very simple: Humans are social animals, they born free and can’t live without others arrowed them. Wherever they go they start forming a society around them. Therefore, if you are allowed to be above the law, sure you can’t live alone up there, and soon you will have a society up there living with you above the law, and since living above the law of the land is appealing and lucrative, everybody wants to be up there and soon the few up there starts restricting the entry to their privileged “ABOVE THE LAW SOCIETY”. That what we call “Dictatorship”: Were standard land laws are only applicable to no ruling members.
The history of our country is clear as shinning sun and loud as a thunder about respecting and obeying the laws, especially and equally applicable on the highest level of government officials including the presidents of this great country.

  13. Ya my daughter parked next to one of these signs on Andover and within 10 minutes she had a citation in which she had to donate $70 to the 20th distict court. No problem, she broke the law. Who is going to issue the owner of this car the same citation.? When? Who is going to pay the citation?

  14. Certainly this mayor does NOT lead by example. Since we the taxpayers are paying for an expensive police car for the mayor to drive around in he feels he can park anywhere a police car can park. The arrogance of this man is unbelievable.

  15. Yes, and I’m thinking of slowly sliding through a stop sign in front a policeman and seeing how far that gets me. And when they come up to the side of the car, I’m going to tell them that I see them doing that in front of my house EVERY SINGLE DAY. Just how far do you think that would get me?
