Winter Safety Tips…..
Remember, the City of Dearborn Heights uses sirens to alert residents of a snow emergency.  All vehicles must be moved from public streets when a snow emergency/ winter emergency is declared. When expecting 2-3 inches of snow, by moving your vehicle, this will assist the snow plows with moving through the streets and cleaning the snow away.
Do NOT blow or shovel your snow into the street (ordinance violation).
Clear sidewalks promptly for mail delivery and visitors safety.  Keep salt on hand.
Check on elderly neighbors and clear their walks and sidewalks.
Clear sidewalks of vacant homes.  Let’s work together and be proactive against crime in our neighborhoods!

Ping4Alert is a globally scalable alerting platform and mobile safety app.  Residents will be able to sign up and receive notifications from city departments.  Stayed tuned!

NO Dearborn Heights City Council Study Session on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 due to Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Regarding the Army Corps of Engineers study, 2011, it is under peer review process (Federal). Governor Synder has assigned  Paul Smith to assist and support Dearborn Heights.  Michigan will have a lobbyist seeking congressional funding once a name and number has been assigned to the project. When this happens, I would encourage our residents to begin a vigorous letter and calling campaign.  Mayor Paletko has met with our newly elected Wayne County CEO Warren Evans, discussing the needed funding for the project.  Mr. Evans has agreed to meet with residents and Dearborn Heights elected officials.  He fully understands and appreciates the importance of the Ecorse Creek and the on going flooding our residents experience.  The area of continued follow up regarding appropriations will continue.

  1. Troy, January 8, 2015 at 11:24 pm; when comparing and evaluating public servants, actions and results are keys to voting decisions. Councilwoman LHC could’ve been a great mayor candidate in last election. Hopping she will consider that option next election.

Kudos to her for serving the E readers voters of Dearborn Heights. Its a very good starting point if she decided to run as future mayor of this city.

  4. Thank you Councilwoman Hicks-Clayton. I would like to add that CHC does this email newsletter on her own time. She does not get paid for it. She is actually doing something that the city administration should have done years ago. She has regular scheduled meetings with all the residents, has met with residents on an individual basis regarding particular concerns and is very active in outside committees and meetings that impact Dearborn Heights. She does all this even having health concerns that would side-line someone like me.

  5. I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! In addition, a few comments I would like to address. First, I have posted on more than one occasion my personal phone number, e-mail, and Facebook- please contact me directly with your concerns. I do not always check the Truth Page and may not see your concern in a timely fashion . I have a policy of addressing and following up on concerns within a reasonable period of time. Second, Anonymous, please provide the date and details of the magnet, city vehicle, and landscaping company. I have written journals documenting residents’ concerns, as well as computerized records. I have not located any complaint similar to this. Third, Curious Watcher, the e-letter is issued on a weekly, on average. All information is current, and is time sensitive. For example, the week of December 29th had the Mayor’s State of the City Address which is Jan 13. It will not reappear in any other edition. In fact, there have been over 12 editions of the e-letter, all with different news since its inception. Have you received or seen one of the e-letters? Currently, the subscription list is over 350 and growing. In addition, many city and community leaders are contributing to the e-letter. It is a voluntary choice I have made to offer our resident communication and promote our community. In closing, I am honored and blessed to serve the residents of Dearborn Heights. Please feel free to contact me anytime at (313) 633.1845.

  6. drheights48127 , January 2, 2015 at 12:09 pm, I’m assuming that the funeral on Friday was during the day and the timing of the funeral is outside Mr. Amen lunch hour! He may be using his lunch time to attend the funeral or other personal time. He may be their on his own not representing the city. Just for clerefication.

  7. drheights48127 , January 2, 2015 at 12:09 pm, Mr Amen is the chairman of the islamic center on ford road, and been their on Fridays may be part of his chairmanship duties. Neverless, I tough all salered city employees suppose to work on Fridays if they are paid 40 hours per week? If that the case what city representation he will be doing at the Islamic Center during working hours related to his job if his salary and benefits including the car expenses is fully paid by HUD funding? According to HUD website all their funding are restriced to specific eligible activities according to HUD national objectives as approved by the US congress.

  9. When a car was approved for Mr. Amen according to the Mayor that was part of his package when he was hired. Mr. Amen told the council that he should get to keep his car because it was paid for by CDBG money “grant money.” Former Councilwoman Badalow investigated this claim and found out from the office that handles the grant money from the state to the city. From what was sent to her in writing a car expense is never covered under the grant. Guess what? To my knowledge this subject was never discussed again. Who if not the grant is paying for the car? Did the city have to pay back money that was used to pay for this car? Mr. Amen never gave up the car so how is it being paid for? If it’s paid off then who pays for the maintenance?
Did anything ever happen to Mr. Amen by the City or the State for his misuse of CDBG grant money? As with most everything that is ever uncovered in this City nothing is ever done about it.

  10. Eyes Wide Open , January 3, 2015 at 11:32 am, to the best of my recollection, Ex-councilwoman Janet Badalow addressed the issue of Mr. Amen city car last years during a council meeting, she had concerns about who pay the cost of his car and his time representing the city outside his duties. I can’t find the information on the city website, if any one can, please post them here. Note: “every municipal payment is allocated to a specific account including salaries and benefits and some municipal funding are restricted to specific duties and expenses”.

  11. CityCar: This is just and extension of an attitude of the chief executive in this city and shall I dare say, chief executive of this county (sorry Mr. Evans, hopefully that is not true of your administration). It is a prevailing attitude in most departments in both of these bodies of government. With oppressed “outrage” by citizens and their own peers, “they” can do what they want and when they want. With no accountability at a peer level or at a public level they are being led by their own conscience (scary). No checks or balances at all. The council has proved to be part and parcel to the continued abuse not only outwardly but behind the scenes as well. For example the ever growing “water” fund / budget that is growing out of control, just to name one. Or the continued conflict of interests situations with no acknowledgement. Please continue to make these type of observations as PUBLIC as you can, as others continue to work on the “behind the scene” behaviors of these governments and officials. “Don’t grow weary in well doing…” It is encouraging to me that you are willing to take a stand even if it does overflow into the personal lives of public servants. NOTE: I often see a flower truck at the city council meetings so perhaps owning a cemetery would not be a bad business to get involved in DH! I think that might only be second to being a Civil Engineering firm or a Water Dept. / DPW contractor in the city of DH.

Yes the City is closed on Friday Ron Amen does have a City owned paid for by the taxpayers car that he takes home with him everyday. Why he’s using it on a Friday? I have no Idea. Was the Mayor at the Mosque I’ve seen Mr. Amen in attendance many times at Mosque with the Mayor if that’s the case then he is there representing the City and has every right to be using the car. I have no idea if he owns a cemetery and could care less if he does that’s his own business. Why would his owning a cemetery be the reason for him being at the Mosque on a Friday?

Could you please tell me why Ron Amen is using a City car on a Friday? Isn’t the City closed on Fridays? My husband saw him at a Mosque where there was a funeral for someone and he was there using the City car my husband saw him get in the car. I’ve asked some other people in the community who told me that he owns a cemetery is that true? Could that be the reason he was at this Mosque? What are the rules in our City for the use of City cars? How is this even possible? My husband was very upset and so was I when he told me about it.
