From a commenter.

Dear drheights48127, You keep asking me and others to attend council meetings and voice our concerns with city officials, A senior was confronted  by city official, a respected residents were trashed by another, a political dignitary was threatened to be sued and banned from attending council meetings, and others who asked to shut up, and others who been called names when asked questions. Some of us can’t take that and prefer to voice their concerns on social media venues. Thank you for facilitating this blog, it’s really nice of you and kudos to your efforts to better DH.

Council members and Mayor if you are reading this even one of you please let the rest know just what residents think about your council meetings. Is this the legacy you all want to leave behind after giving so many years of service to your city?

  1. abc,

Thank you for clearing things up. I appreciate that you came back to the blog and posted that it had been a misunderstanding. I should not have been so thin skinned myself and apologize for that.

  2. Dear grandmasuzanne610, my post was not directed to you, it was general statement. I don’t know who you are or how you look, and frankly don’t care because I respect you and your opinion by reading your posts. Sorry for the miss-perception. Smiling is good juster for all humans and happiness is good living.

Sorry, It was really total miss-understanding. And sure I agree with you about the needs for changes in the way city function and deliver the services.

  3. Dear abc,

………………………..”Do what you believe is the right path for you without regard to what others think, you are responsible for your actions regardless of others doings. You should do what you do because you want to do what you doing. You should encourage others to support your cause and expect very few to believe you. Life is short, so be happy when can and as mush as possible, smiling makes you look better and more acceptable by others.”………………………………

Wow ” all the above from my asking people that don’t want to talk at council meetings (because they are afraid of being attacked by council and city workers) to support us with their presence. I should smile because it makes me look better…. why the personal attack on my appearance? I should be more acceptable by others…..what does this have to do with what I said?

Frankly abc, I smell either a council member or an administration skunk. I think I have it narrowed down to the three people I think you might be. Why don’t you stop hiding behind your “abc” and tell us your real name. However, just for the record I don’t really give a bat’s bum if I don’t look good to you or not and being accepted by the likes of you is something I just don’t want to strive for. Oh and by the way, I am very happy with my life but I am not happy about the things that are going in this city. Please take that to your king.

  4. Dear Grandma Suzanne, Some of us are allergic to odors, music, events, animals, flowers, foods, and other matters, we are created individuals from the sane origin, but we act and react differently. If you believe attending the council meeting will help you achieve your objectives then just do that with God blessing.

The pond, the ballots, and the flood issues attracted voters to attend the meetings. I hope other issues will attract more voters to do the same.

Do what you believe is the right path for you without regard to what others think, you are responsible for your actions regardless of others doings. You should do what you do because you want to do what you doing. You should encourage others to support your cause and expect very few to believe you. Life is short, so be happy when can and as mush as possible, smiling makes you look better and more acceptable by others.

  5. Commenter,

I realize that the behavior towards those of us that speak out is alarming. However, just having your physical presence there at meetings to support us is so much more helpful than you think. You don’t have to speak up if you feel uncomfortable in doing so.

All of us here on this blog feel that social media is the way also. This is one of the main things we have been fighting for. Can you believe that information for the council members has to be printed out and hand delivered to each councilmember’s physical address by the police because they refuse to use technology. Can you imagine the cost of printing out anywhere between 100 and 200 pages of back up for each of them when all of it could be sent to an IPod and they could have the information right at their fingertips.

They ignore basic technology because it is there way of saying they don’t want to know how we feel and don’t really give a darn about how we feel. Talking about technology and social media on this blog is like preaching to the choir. Coming to this blog is great but just talking and complaining about things here without action does not solve the problems of this very broken city.

What we need is your physical presence at the meetings-just seeing large numbers of residents in the audience scares the crap out of them. All the council’s imposed rules of meeting order when out the window when that large crowd of American-Arabs came to protest the actions of the clerk. Those that didn’t want to speak held up signs of protest and some just sat silently. They are an example of what many united can do. One lady was able to talk for almost a half an hour; yet when we speak as individuals they give us three minutes and then we have to sit down. They were afraid of the large number of people there and so they let people speak as long as they wanted.

Please come to the meetings if only to listen, observe and support those of us who don’t feel uncomfortable speaking in public.
