What Ever You Want Just Ask It’s No Problem At All…

This weeks council meeting has an interesting request from the Clerks office the clerk would like to buy a new operating system for the Clerks office. The city switched over to BS&A costing the tax payers thousands, but making the city far more efficient. Every department able to communicate with each other saving time and money a novel idea right. Finally you get the whole city working on the same page only to find out that someone who wasn’t around when the different departments could not look up each others information in one place has decided he doesn’t want to do that. No the clerk wasn’t around for that never worked at city hall during those days. No matter he’s elected so he can do what he wants and he probably will get it his way no matter that it’s going to cost the tax payers extra money he wants to be different.

I just can’t understand why this person is incapable of working within the budgetary constraints that the city now finds itself in. Oh wait he said he could when he was running for the office. It’s a good thing the city has a charter that puts limits on elected officials in our city. Limits on the amount of money they can spend and limits to what their powers are while they hold office. I would sure hate to see what this person would do if there wasn’t the city charter to stop him.

For someone who claimed he was going to “Stream Line The Clerks Office.” this doesn’t feel like it more like throwing a monkey wrench into the moving parts. One good thing about BS&A we can see where the money’s spent and where it comes from you can take a look at it your self here.

  1. A Team Player supports the Team. Sometimes that means sacrificing a personal accomplishment to help everyone look good.

It takes a very unselfish person to be a Team Player because often their individual contribution goes unrecognized.

Before the next (and every subsequent) election, lets determine who our Team Players are and make sure they get elected.

  2. Watched the city council meeting
And was appalled at Walt’s behavior at the end of the meeting. Kinda bratty. Unprofessional. The Buck stops here comment was price less!! Who does he think he is?

  3. I watched the meeting on television and saw Janet’s response to Walt’s request at which time he said that she wouldn’t look at him or talk to him since the election and it was very plain to him that this was “a personal vendetta.” Really, Walt? How ’bout living up to your campaign promises? You’ve done nothing but complain and ask for more and more since you took office. Don’t blame it on Janet. After all my years working, it’s ALWAYS been that everyone on the same system makes sense.

  4. The comments about saving taxpayer money with common communication software make sense. Can Dearborn Hts save addtitonal monies by sharing expensive community services such as Fire Dept personnel with obvious choices such as Dearborn, where Dearborn Hts is a common neighbor. The savings with joint cooperation are obvious. A fire in Dbn Hts next to a fire station located in Dearborn saves money and lives, and it also goes vice versa. I heard that this was being looked into, but Dearborn had obsolete communications so it was not possible. Really? Fire Fighters are union, and no one wants to be the one ‘let go’. However, these are hard times, and us taxpayers need some relief. Can you check it out?

  5. Janet has said that she does read the blog from time to time, but shes never commentated here. If you know anything about her you would know that if she did ever decide to comment here she would under her own name just like the rest of the council does.
Janet can take it on the chin better than most and she has publicly over and over so why would you think she would use a screen name other than her own?

  6. Do you know what the yearly licensing fee is? The Clerk was quite clear in his presentation that the $1,800 was comprehensive no other monies. The amount of the licensing fee is important to the analysis. As a project manager, including IT projects, I would expect the following to be in the formal (modified)request.. Cost, licensing, training, support and benefits and risk. How each of these will be handled and cost associated. You can’t say that the cost of the software is the only cost, it simply isn’t. It’s poor business sense to act without facts to support the decision one way or the other. I don’t have any skin in the game – just experience in IT.

  7. Coucilwoman Badalow did not write that post. I did. But don’t let facts get in the way of your assumptions.

  8. I “think” your comment is leading me to believe Citizen 1 is Janet Badelow. Correct? If so, probably the reason she commented under a pseudonym is because no matter what she says or does, people seem to have it in for her. Also, does it then follow that “A Young Man” is another one of our council members?

  9. Wow. Instead of saying something constructive you have to browbeat a citizen, Marge? Besides which, Citizen 1 didn’t say anything more than a lot of others have been saying.

  10. Anonymous2: The “host of questions/answers” ARE important. Why would you want to install a program that may save one department, but cost others time and money? Why have one stand alone department that is not connected? Seems efficiency would be one of the questions.and it doesn’t sound like politics – just common sense!

  11. Well, Janet, it really tells a lot about you that all of the rest of the council posts under their real names and you hide behind a pseudonym. Grow up already, you behave like a child.

  14. Spilled milk and how long has he been in office? 5 months after taking office he wants a new hire and bring back the deputy. Just how is that going to work out. Is the city going to throw all the rules out the window to accommodate this man? It wasn’t that long ago that the Mayor hired someone for a civil service position and he did not have them test for the position. Every person working over at city hall was outraged the council fought with the Mayor for a year over it. The position was not posted no one got to apply for it and he kept this person employed with the city for over a year.
Now is the same thing going to happen with this position in the clerks office just put the council sec in the position no testing, no posting of the position, no panel of 3 different clerks from different city’s giving our clerk 3 names for him to pick from. That’s how its been done in the past those are the rules, but we’re suppose to forget all of the rules when it comes to him. Spilled milk I take what people say seriously when they run for office words have meaning when you put your self out there as being the only candidate that can get the job done with the monies the city has to work with you darn well better stand behind what you said. Spilled Milk its a lot more than that we’re not a bunch of idiots to just come and try to sweep all of this under the rug by calling it Spilled Milk that’s insulting. The vary least he could say is Ladies and Gentleman I misrepresented myself while running for this office as it turns out I won’t be able to do the job as I thought I could. I’m SORRY. Just one more example of why the saying “you can never trust a politician” is so true.

  15. Just because someone says something doesn’t make it true. And cheaper isn’t always better. A stand-alone system for the clerk’s office isolates that office from the rest of city hall and makes inter-office cooperation far more difficult than he has already made it.

I am looking at this with some brains and I’ll need more than the clerk’s word. He also said he would work without a deputy clerk and how’s that going so far?

  16. It could be year, I will have to watch again. But either way, the point is that it seems the clerk WILL save money with this being a one-time cost versus a recurring cost. The other “host of questions/answers” seems to be all politics…..spilled milk to be exact.

  17. Every month? I heard every year in his presentation. I will watch a taped re-run. Substantial difference on either end. Also, don’t know if the contract allows DH to opt out of this particular license fee. Again analysis – there are a host of questions/answers that should be included in such a presentation, cost being only one.

  18. I saw the meeting. He very clearly stated that this program is a ONE TIME COST OF $2200, whereas the BS&A program is $1800 EVERY MONTH. Who is so dumb that they can’t see the cost savings in this???? He also stated that even the BS&A company admitted their progrram is deficient. Let’s drop the politics and look at this with some brains people.

  19. I was also at the meeting. The request was out of line. He didn’t prove in any way that an exception to BS&A software was needed for his dept. The reason was it’s slow, I can save money by buying something else….really? Show the citizens a well thought out analysis including the cost of not having the clerks office communicate with other depts, additional training not covered by BS&A contract, support services …etc. The price of the software is insignificant when compared to possible productivity concerns and hidden costs. We’re sorry you don’t like the decision that was made. A compromise totable it and look into it further was actually more than I was willing to do for your request.
The speech about how “the buck stops here” because I’m the ELECTED Clerk and I know what’s best for MY dept was foolish, as were your comments exiting the meeting and complaining about” things will always be done the same way here, no one wants to change.” Dearborn Heights wants a change Walt…but we’ll have to wait 3 years to vote for it.
