New Directive for Department Heads in Dearborn Heights

The Mayor sent out an email to department heads apparently they are not allowed to talk to council members without getting permission from him first. Mr. Mayor heads of departments do not work for you, they work for all of us. How do you expect the council elected by us to do their job if they can’t get relevant information to do it? Departments heads must answer council members. You are in violation of the city’s charter, but why would you care not like anyone will do anything about it.

The bigger problem, if a department head does not answer a council persons questions they can be written up for insubordination. This can be put in their permanent file reflecting a poor job performance. Mr. Mayor put this new directive in writing put it before the residents of this city at the next council meeting. Give us taxpayers the chance to do something about it. When you start paying for them out of your pocket you can give orders to impede the council in doing their due diligence.

The mayor of Dearborn Heights will go to any lengths to keep city council from doing what they are elected to do. I expect this council to write a formal complaint against the mayor have it read for the record at the next council meeting and submit it to the proper authority of the state. It’s about time this council stands up collectively as one and does something about this.

  1. When you control the Council (have enough votes to get what you want) like he does, you will never get enough (4 votes) to say NO to the Mayor.

The Mayor does not control the Council, officially, but he does control the Department Heads. They are all appointed by him and if they refuse to do what he says, he can and will fire them. Since they serve at the Mayor’s will, they will NEVER oppose him, no matter what the Council tells them.

He has never paid any attention to the Council, so what makes you think he will start now. He thinks he is God and everyone should bow down to his orders. That includes the City Council you and I hired to be his checks and balance.

I have been saying this for soooooo long when oh when is this council going to call him out. Better yet when are they going to lock him out and do what needs to be done?

  4. I think the next time he walks out of a City Council meeting to avoid hearing a citizen speak, someone should lock the door and refuse to let him back in.

It’s time we called his bluff on a lot of things.

  5. When is someone going to slam the mayor with the no-no-you-can’t-do-that? I am so sick of hearing how he throws his weight around and no one stops him. He is always doing things against the city charter and no one does anything. What he has done to us, the taxpayers, is unforgivable. His behavior is something he has to learn to control. Who will show him that we set up the rules, the charter, the mothods by which this city is run? It is not him! Stop it Mayor P! My (elected/chosen) Council members, please follow through! Do something to pull this runaway train back on track!

  6. The council wouldn’t be standing up for themselves as Linda Moore indicated — If they say “no” to the Mayor, they’d be standing up for the tax paying citizens of the City of Dearborn Heights, who pays the council to look out for our interests.

  7. I wonder what the Mayor would do if the City Council collectively and publicly (like at a City Council meeting) told him “no.”

  8. At this point, I would say that the ball is in City Council’s court.

I’ll be curious to see what they do.

I hope that they stand up for themselves.
