The Great Departure…

Last Thursday March 31 the day that saw so many in the city leave.. The Clerk and two others from the clerk’s office on March 31 the third to leave on April 14. Oh but not so fast the former Clerk will be coming back part-time. The administration had to show the savings in the budget this budget not the new budget. What savings pay the new clerk and pay the former clerk good job. It would have been far cheaper to keep the former clerk until after the election in November

The building department is down to one part timer after asking the woman who has been with the city for 22 years to leave, well not asking telling her that her position was being eliminated.. So she took the early out and Thursday was her last day oh not so fast she has been asked to come back and work in the building department as a part timer because the building department has been gutted. So great the city eliminates the position that person takes an early out and then they bring the very same person back. The Assessors Department is down to two people a couple of part-time guys that are not Assessors. That department is lucky to have the part-time workers.. One from that department left two weeks ago took the early out. Who knows if they will be replaced or not. There is more Police and Fire, the DPW department all are down employees. I wonder with the departments being short-handed will the overtime sky-rocket? If it does then how is all of this eliminating of employees saving the city anything?

Talking with one women she said that she is so worried she does not know from day-to-day if she is going to have a job. She comes to work not knowing if this is going to be the day that she will be told to leave. That is the real reason that so many took the early outs when they had that chance. Another person said that the person who should be making the cuts is not the person making them. They are worried that it does not matter if you are doing a good job what matters is if you are on the right side of the person making the cuts. I don’t know, but I would like my boss the person who hired me looking at my work recorded not someone who has way to much power in the city basing their decision on who to let go by the standard of if you kissed their *** enough over the years.

  1. Hey…. I don’t come to this blog to argue with people. I completely agree with you, big dog. I never said otherwise. Just getting tired of the same “joke” repeated. I don’t think we’re as bad as Detroit, but I do agree that there are a lot of people moving here that just don’t care about their houses. It’s a shame. This used to be a great city!!!

  3. Big Dog,
Please please please, enough with “Detroit Heights”. It was old 4 posts ago!!! Nobody can sell their house. So, join the club. Not just in Dearborn Heights, but everywhere. We’re not the only city that has houses that have lost value. I’ve been here much longer than you. This city has definitely declined since I’ve been here. I’ve seen many changes. And most are not GOOD changes. I’m not sure if an EFM is beneficial for this city. There are things the administration/council need to do to clean up the mess. Don’t punish everybody that works for the city because of poor management by just a few!!! Research what would really happen if an EFM would come in. Not a good thing!

  4. there is no savings. unless they cut back there hours of operation.
he maybe a cpa, but that doesn’t mean he is a good one.
maybe he was a D average student. if that is the case, we can see why our city is hurting.
he worked at ford before as a cpa, and we don’t know what went on there.
of course arrogance seems to be his thing.
there are many good workers that were forced into this situation, and im proud that they are coming back on a part time basis.
he keeps this up, a EFM is right around the corner.
karma takes time. we need to be patient.

  6. It is way past time to go after the mayor’s office. I am not waiting for Karma to come and take that group down, though I am sure that will happen, too. Take the mayor by his pockets and shake him till he does the proper things. I want to know why his “ass-istant” is doing all his work, (oh, except for the lunches, dinners, and award ceremonies of course) with the help of all the secretaries (and others), and he is still picking up his check? If he is so brilliant and giving advice to other cities, I will eat my hat. I remember all the old mayors, from 1963 forward, and only one was kicked in the pants and out the door. I have never seen any mayor do what this mayor has done to hurt the city. Big time CPA? Yeah, well who is he working for? The citiaens are really getting a bad deal with him at the helm. And instead of doing a shakedown in the other depts of the city, he should have started in his own office. What the heck did he do before Miss K came along? Maybe he had only himself to blame back then. She is looking more and more like his patsy, and dragging the city down faster and farther than anyone before her. I’d like to ask Council Horvath if she had the same duties, or pulled the same bummers as Miss K has when she was in that position. And, by the way, I have seen, and heard enough lies from the esteemed mayor that I wouldn’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth.
I can’t figure out why, after all the sandbagging and crap that the admin has pulled on the people who left or are leaving, why would they bother to come back and put in part time. They care about the city, that’s why. They could have really stuck it to the city, but that isn’t hurting the mayor or his cronies. He still comes out smelling like a petunia. The clerk and every one else had a choice. They care about the city so they are doing the part time thing. If the mayor was so brilliant he could have left things alone until proper training was in place. Now the city has to pay part time, overtime, and whatever else that comes up. What else is the Brilliant one going to come up with?
