Last Thursday March 31 the day that saw so many in the city leave.. The Clerk and two others from the clerk’s office on March 31 the third to leave on April 14. Oh but not so fast the former Clerk will be coming back part-time. The administration had to show the savings in the budget this budget not the new budget. What savings pay the new clerk and pay the former clerk good job. It would have been far cheaper to keep the former clerk until after the election in November
The building department is down to one part timer after asking the woman who has been with the city for 22 years to leave, well not asking telling her that her position was being eliminated.. So she took the early out and Thursday was her last day oh not so fast she has been asked to come back and work in the building department as a part timer because the building department has been gutted. So great the city eliminates the position that person takes an early out and then they bring the very same person back. The Assessors Department is down to two people a couple of part-time guys that are not Assessors. That department is lucky to have the part-time workers.. One from that department left two weeks ago took the early out. Who knows if they will be replaced or not. There is more Police and Fire, the DPW department all are down employees. I wonder with the departments being short-handed will the overtime sky-rocket? If it does then how is all of this eliminating of employees saving the city anything?
Talking with one women she said that she is so worried she does not know from day-to-day if she is going to have a job. She comes to work not knowing if this is going to be the day that she will be told to leave. That is the real reason that so many took the early outs when they had that chance. Another person said that the person who should be making the cuts is not the person making them. They are worried that it does not matter if you are doing a good job what matters is if you are on the right side of the person making the cuts. I don’t know, but I would like my boss the person who hired me looking at my work recorded not someone who has way to much power in the city basing their decision on who to let go by the standard of if you kissed their *** enough over the years.
