Keep going and taking from the lowest in the city.. Mr. Mayor have you taken a 10% pay cut yet? Like the Mayor of Dearborn has done. Have you reduced your salary by one dollar? Have you reduced your assistant mayors 60,000.00 a year salary by 10% 5% anything. Have you reduced the salary of any of your department heads? No, but your assistant can run around the city telling the union workers give up your longevity or the city is going to get an EFM coming in to break all your contracts. The first thing that would happen is the Mayor would be sent home and there is no more job for his assistant/contract negotiator/NSP program manager/FOIA coordinator. So she has much more to loss if an EFM comes into the city.. Give me, Give me, Give me and what are your giving Mr. Mayor has one car been taken away no.. The assistant to the Mayor or what ever hat she is wearing this week drives a city car why? She is not a department head or is she? Now maybe the cars are a small thing in light of the 4 million dollar deficit that I hear we have. Okay I will concede that yes it is a very small thing, but should you not start with that before you keep going after these people.. Just so everyone understands not every contract that was negotiated came out with the same benefits. Some unions within the city did much better than other unions. They may have given up the same thing, but other unions made it up in different areas of their contracts..

    They the council do not get health benefits I think taking from people that are earning 9,000.00 a year is not the same as taking from the Mayor and his assistant. You are asking the wrong people to take a cut for that matter the city started in the wrong place you do not start at the bottom. The Mayor should never ask the people below him to take cuts before he does it him self.. The longevity was turned down by the ASFCEME Union and the police and fire have not signed the letter of understanding to my knowledge. The Mayor in Dearborn took a 10% he said in the news paper that he could no ask the workers in the city to take the cut before he did.. That is a true leader not someone sending his Assistant Mayor with a letter of understanding to give up longevity and telling them if you do not an EFM will come in.. If an EFM comes to the city it will not be because the ASFCEME Union did not give up their longevity, it will be because of the financial state of the city..

  2. DPW, Police, Fire and other city employee’s are being ask to take cuts in health care and longevity. If the Mayor is being ask to take a pay cut I believe the council should take one also. What kind of health benefits does a part time council position earn. Did they take the same hit as other city employee’s?

    If you call a four MILLION dollar deficit “keeping this city afloat”, then you have issues!!!!!!!!!!! Dearborn Heights is WAY under water. I’m not sure where you are getting your information, but it’s completely inaccurate!!!!!! Concessions should start from the top down!!!!!!! There is no reason only unions should give things up. I think the council needs to do SOMETHING to quash this administration!!!

    You want the council to give up from their 9,000.00 a year and the Mayor and his Assistant do not give up one dime. How is that suppose to work and how much does an Allen Park city council member get a year? The council does not get paid over time they do not get sick days, vacation, personal days and the only one who gets health benefits is the chair. They do not get a city car to drive around in they do not get a cell phone stipend. They do how ever do the work of the city with closed sessions city council meetings and study sessions. Every Tuesday of the month they do the work of the city for hours sometimes not including all the time put in before the council meeting, study sessions, or closed sessions. So I think asking the council to give up 3 months pay before the Mayor gives up one dime does not make any sense. That is just the way I look at it anyway.

  7. At least Dearborn Heights is still above water unlike most cities. Be thankful we have this Mayor. We have other communities calling our Mayor asking him for advice and how he is keeping this city afloat. I read that Allen Park city council is going to give up 3 months of there pay…what about are council!

  8. they didn’t say there is different unions, only in the content of the contracts.
    the ufcw with kroger has different contracts also. depends on the department you work in.
    for example: the meat dept is on a separate contract than the rest of the union, because of type of work they do.
    Handling meat and knives and not to mention machinery they use is categorized as a bit more dangerous than scanning groceries. so they get a different kind of contract.
    speaking from experience. i was once employed there, and saw how the process worked.
    so yes there are different kinds of contracts depending on your JOB CLASSIFICATION.

    the over spending, the lying. wish the state would hurry up already.
    I know that we should be careful what we wish for, but
    having financial manager can’t be any worse than our current issue. It might stopped the bleeding that this administration caused us.
    I don’t give a rats ass how many hats ms krissy wears,
    she is not worth that salary. someone with a masters degree should be receiving that salary, not someone who has no college degree, and just a high school diploma.
    We the tax payers deserve an explanation as to why she is so overpaid for a high school diploma, and get a city vehicle which she drives all over the place on non city errands and personal use. HHHHMMMMM????
    Then she gets a secretary too???? nice, real nice.$$$$

  11. LIKE I KEEP SAYING NOBODY CARES . YOU CANT SELL YOUR HOUSE BECAUSE OF FLOODING BASEMENT. NOBODY KEEPS THE HOMES UP IN THE CITY. LOOKS LIKE DETROIT TO ME. AND ITS RAN LIKE DETROIT. SO CHANGE THE SIGN TO( WELCOME DETROIT HEIGHTS .)OVER PAID MAYOR AND EMPLOYEES. RUN CITY HALL ON PART TIME PEOPLE .I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE STATE SEND A EFM.. TO CLEAN HOUSE.

  12. The city council needs to get a backbone and Ken Baron needs to show some leadership on the council. Someone needs to put an end to this Mayor and his charade and fight the Mayors budget, say no to his cuts, and lower his assistants $60,000 salary. She doesn’t even have a College degree and is running the NSP program into the ground. The last budget (which is available on the city’s website) shows the Mayors office (him, his assistant, and their secretary help) at $250,000!!! For a city our size to spend a quarter of a million dollars for the Mayor and his assistant in this economy is simply not justified.

    Bring in an EFM …we obviously need one to clean up the mess this Mayor has got us into.
