They Wonder Why No One Believes Them..

Not sure how many of you noticed at the council meeting when Mr. Muskat said that after speaking out at the council meeting about the flooding and demanding an answer after waiting 8 months Shortly after that ccm he received a letter from the city stating that the city was not going to be settling any claims.. I would like to take all of you back to a previous council meeting sometime after the flooding event. When the lawyer who is handling the claims sat at the council table and told the residents that he recommends that they do not sign on to any lawsuits against the city because that will cause more problems and that the residents should work with the city. The city was willing to work with the residents to settle claims.. You were asked to give you address and name to the Assistant Mayor and please they said report all flooding issues even if you are not going to file a claim we need to know every address that flooded in the city.. I wonder how many people decided not to follow through with a lawsuit and try to work with the city to settle their claims. Only to be hit right between the eyes with guess what guys the city is not going to work with you on any claim we are not going to settle anything.. Talk about getting the wind knocked out of you. Nice job administration nice way to con your residents nice way to once again show them why they should never believe one word that comes out of your mouth.. How much has the city paid out in lawyer fees so far?

Mr. Muskat spoke again at the March 22 2011 meeting he was very mad yelling at the council for not having answers yelling that they are trying to hide something, letting them all know that he holds them all accountable including the council. The council sad to say has nothing to do with what or how the administration (the Mayor) is treating the residents. The only thing the council could do was vote to approve spending 109,000.00 of taxpayer money for a study. A study that we paid for, but guess what guys we can not see it because  you guessed it might interfere with the lawsuit. Well the only way this would interfere with the lawsuits is if the city was at fault for the flooding.. Mr. Muskat can not even find out if this “Gate” that has been brought up was open or closed. Closed would be my guess that is why the water was going nowhere. Who controls the “Gate” where is this “Gate” who has to push the dam button to open the mysterious “Gate”? All questions that we will not get answers to for sure.

  1. So what your saying is we cant have nice finished basement in this city because they wont fix the flooding issue??
Mr. Muskat and others pride themselves in having well kept houses and finish their basements to add extra living space to their homes. A freak storm or flood every 15-20 years is something that most people accept as an act of God, but when it happens every other year then the city needs to fix the problem.
This is about investing in infrastructure and making sure that things like the sewer system, the power lines, the roads and streets, and other necessary things are kept up to prevent major problems.
When you see the waste of money that the water and sewer department in Detroit (which we all use) had (Millions of dollars missing) and the huge profits that DTE makes every year, then they need to make sure their infrastructure is maintained and kept up.

This is more than a city problem…this is a Wayne County problem. And with all respect to Dianne Webb and councilman Tom Berry in regards to the new crosswalk light on Ford and Telegraph (which is a good idea) how about making sure the grass in the medians is mowed this year huh?
Infrastructure…basic maintenance…making sure basements don’t flood…these core things are what makes a city great not new flashing cross walk signs.
Quit trying to put lipstick on a pig and work on fixing the foundation problems in our city.

  2. I grew up with the flooding issue, remember my father and mother working their cans off cleaning up after each incident. They never asked for anything from the city. I am still in DH, though not in the same area. People in that area do the same thing as they have been doing for all those years, and no one I know of ever filed a complaint with the city. I am sure they would have if they had known they could. But then, why should our city keep paying out for the idiocy, bad planning, and bad decisions made by the administration. I applaud Ray M for getting on the podium and for putting it to the mayor and his pocket lawyer for their disrespect. Get on the problem, solve it, pay them and let’s move on. These people have suffered enough with the past flooding.

  4. When are you all going to realize that nothing is going to be done about the flooding! I have lived here in this city since 1965. Have been flooded many many times and nothing has ever been done, get used to it.That is the reason I can not sell my house. I have tried to discus it with a lot of city people but they are all more interested in other things. It is sad that every time it rains I live in fear and this has been going on all these years. The one thing I can say is no one should use their basement to live in,don’t put anything in there that id of value. Basements are not meant to be an extra room to live in.
