The residents are losing one of the Best…
The Clerk decision to leave was a heart breaking gut wrenching one. A decision she agonized over for the better part of a year. For those of us who are her friends we know the reason for her resignation. Those of us who know, know. She did say a little at the council meeting after being attacked by councilman Berry for leaving. She did say that she was leaving for health reasons. The Clerk is a cancer survivor and she said the back and forth, the fighting in city hall, “I can not stay here anymore. Councilman Berry was upset that she did not write a letter to the council and ask for permission to do this. The clerk does not answer to the council she is an elected official. Comparing the Chief of police to the clerk is like comparing apples and oranges. The chief answers to the mayor and the council. The clerk does not she does not need to come before the council and get permission from them to do anything. He went on to say that having an elected official able to participate in early outs was not a good thing. He went on to say that none of this is final even after the Clerk tried to say yes it is I paid already he said “no.” It took Councilwoman Badalow to explain that yes she has paid and it has been accepted by the pension board along with 14 other people. Two of the 14 are from the clerks office, not including the clerk herself. He was talking about not being notified. As the clerk said “Councilman Berry this was discussed in a meeting” she went on to say maybe you just do not pay attention. The early outs were extended to non union workers according to the AFSCME contract.
Many people whose positions are being eliminated by the Mayor are taking the early out option. If you wanted to take an early out you had to have your paper work in by January 31 2011. Councilman Berry could you not find one fragment of decency and let her leave with some dignity. She has served this city with respect, the least that can be done for her is to show her the same. What was gained by raking her across the hot coals. Something that was decided on and agreed on was brought before the council just to embarrass her. It is a shame that the Clerk will be leaving the city on a sour note. I hope the next time someone wants to leave the city they will be afforded a little more respect when they do so.
Now on a personal note, I would like to say I consider you one of my very good friends. She is as honest as the day is long. No matter what some tried to accuse her of. She always has a smile on her face and treats everyone at her counter with the utmost respect. It is my honor to call her my friend and her leaving the city is a great loss for us all. Her sense of humor is one of legend if you have not had the opportunity to experience it you are missing out. I will miss her so much at city hall and I am pissed like hell that she is leaving. Not pissed at her, but pissed that she felt the need to. I am just one of many that love Judy I hope she will know how many love her how many respect her and how many are going to miss her.
